Pom Pom Races

If you're looking for a fun, quick activity, have your kids race pom poms!
Kids Activities: Pom Pom Races
All you need is straws, pom poms, and masking tape. Put a strip of tape on a hard floor to split up the players. Then have them blow their pom poms with the straws from one end of the racing lane to the other! See who can blow their pom pom across the finish line first, or have them time themselves and try to beat their personal times. My boys loved this, and they thought it was especially funny when I got down on the floor with them to race.

Kellogg's BFAST Review & Giveaway (Ends 9/10/13)

Disclosure: I was provided with samples of the product below in exchange for this blog post. All opinions expressed are my own.

I am a big cereal fan. My husband shakes his head in bewilderment at the fact I can enjoy a bowl of cereal & milk any time of day.

Our mornings can be quite hectic though, and there are times I am starving but don't have time to sit down and eat a bowl of cereal because I'm running around trying to get my boys ready before the bus comes. Kellogg's BFAST Breakfast Shakes came in very handy for this purpose. Admittedly, I was not a huge fan of the flavors; chocolate was the only one I liked of the berries, vanilla & chocolate flavors I tried. But, it was something I could grab and drink on the go. Plus, I was surprised at how filling and long-lasting the BFAST shakes were. I have a fast metabolism but these usually sustained me for a few hours.

Straw Rocket

We just finished our school year here and I am searching high and low for activities to keep both of my boys entertained this summer…thank goodness for Pinterest, right?! Recently, we made straw rockets and my boys had a blast :). It’s taking the fun of shooting the wrappers off your straws at restaurants and repeating the fun over and over again at home.Straw rocket @ whatilivefor.net

Frugal Summer Fun

Since my husband’s in school, we are always looking for fun things to do without spending tons of money…especially in the summer! It’s too hot for parks everyday!

I taught a class at church on frugal summer fun and thought I would share what I have found here as well. I have a few posts lined up with different ideas for summer fun, hopefully for all ages.

For today, here’s what we like to do in our air conditioned apartment:
  • Play board games…you could even make your own with cardboard and colored paper
  • Do puzzles…my husband and I just finished one and there’s something about sitting side by side, working on something together even if you’re not talking much. The hard part is keeping young kids from destroying it!
  • Read books
    • Read a book or series such as Harry Potter as a family
  • Make a movie together. Dress up and remake well known movies or make up your own.
    • In high school, we remade Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, and Star Wars among others and it was a blast!
  • Build a tent or fort inside
    • Or if your living room is big enough, set up a tent and camp out in your living room (or back yard)
  • Make a miniature golf course using everyday objects
  • Make a scavenger hut or treasure map
    • Have older kids write and hide clues…you could even bury your treasure!
  • Have a movie night with popcorn
  • Invite other families over for a game night
  • Have a marshmallow war with mini marshmallows and straws
I’ll be back Friday with more ideas for entertainment at home! If you think of other fun things, please share in the comments and I will add them to later posts so everyone can see them!

The Perfect High Tea with The Perfect Cake for Grandma's 90th

This post may contain affiliate or sponsored links. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.

What could be more special than celebrating your grandmother's 90th birthday with a perfect high tea? This milestone birthday is definitely worth celebrating in style, and what better way to do that than by hosting a high tea party! Grandma is sure to love it. Both of my grandmothers have passed away and I would love the chance to celebrate them in such a fun way…especially since my maternal grandmother was British!
