Shepherd’s Pie

If there’s one recipe that reminds me of home, it’s Shepherd’s Pie. My mom used to make it regularly and I love how nutritious and filling it is. In this one pie there is meat, veggies, and dairy. The picture doesn’t do it justice…DSCN5497

Want to make some for your family? Here’s how:

Crust: either make a single pie crust or buy one from the store and bake according to directions.

Filling: brown 1 lb of ground beef. Drain grease and add 10 oz frozen or canned vegetables, 1/4 cup green onions, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup instant mashed potato flakes, 1 egg, 1/4 cup ketchup, 1 tsp parsley flakes, 1/2 tsp dried basil flakes, 1/2 tsp garlic salt, and 1/4 tsp pepper.

Mix together and cook until the veggies are cooked. Put into baked pie crust.

Topping: Make up four servings of mashed potatoes and put on top of the meat mixture. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top.

Bake for 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees.
