Paper Plate Dinosaur Craft

Paper Plate Dinosaurs are the perfect craft for toddlers...especially if you have a friend over to play. They allow for creativity, individuality, and they aren't too frustrating for little hands to finish.

All you need is:
  • Paper plates
  • Scissors
  • Paint or markers
  • Construction paper
  • Glue stick
  • Googly eyes
  1. Cut the paper plates in half and hand each kid a half.
  2. Get them painting or coloring and cut out legs, tails and heads in coordinating colored construction paper. I just free-handed these.
  3. When the plate is dry, have them glue the head, legs and tail to their dinosaur.
  4. Add googly eyes and draw on a mouth.
  5. You're done! Admire the cute little dinosaurs :)
Thank you I Heart Arts and Crafts for the fun idea! I'm linking up to the Happiness is Homemade link party.

Balloon Badminton

This summer was spent mostly relaxing at home, but occasionally I found energy to engage the boys in fun activities, one of which was balloon badminton.

All you need are paper plates, popsicle sticks, tape, a balloon, and something to act as a net (we used kitchen chairs).

Tape the popsicle sticks to the back of the paper plates. Have your kids hit the balloon back and forth, implementing age-appropriate rules. This was a great, practically free activity that was easy to set up and left no mess :).

Thanks Pen & Paper Flowers for the fun idea!

Paper Plate Snake and Crab

After seeing Live, Learn, Love’s paper plate snake, I knew this would be a simple, fun craft for K and I. All we had to do was color the plate, then I drew a spiral for K to cut along. Voila! A snake :). Apparently these look pretty cool if you hang it over a candle because the air makes it spin, but K wouldn’t let me try it…

To go along with our snakes, for whatever reason K insisted on a crab too, so we colored a plate red, cut out pinchers and legs and glued them on…

Now I’m totally on the lookout for other paper plate animals…what have you made out of paper plates?

Peppermint Patties

Every recipe has a history right? Even if it’s your first time making it, it came from somewhere. I knew I was in trouble when Jessie Leigh of Parenting the Tiniest of Miracles shared a recipe for homemade peppermint patties, which she found in Family Fun MagazineDSCN4629
I had meant to make these for goody plates over the holidays for friends, but figure these are perfect any time of the year.

Paper Plate Snowmen

We have yet to have anything even remotely resembling snow around here this winter, so we have to take snowmen in whatever form we can get them…

The other day, in searching for a quick, relatively clean craft I came up with paper plate snowmen. Both of my boys loved it and this is an activity that can be modified for any age from painting, to gluing, etc! I just used my trusty sticky tack to hold the plates to the doors and let my boys color away :)

Bottle Cap Turkeys

This isn’t what it looks like…I swear! My husband loves fancy sodas in glass bottles and usually gets some for his birthday each year. I’ve been saving bottle caps for quite a while and am now finally working through the stash :).P1020572

These little turkeys would be so cute on goodie plates or thank-you gifts for friends or teachers. They would also look darling on napkin rings at your Thanksgiving table!

The best part about these cute little turkeys is that you can use a variety of materials for the tail feathers, which means just about anyone can make these if they have a few bottle caps lying around. All you need is some paint, hot glue and tail feathers (leaves, feathers, ribbon, construction paper, whatever!). I made these with my 4 year old and it was a fun bonding time while his little brother slept.

Pick-Up Truck from a Box

I bought my husband a ladder for his birthday and it came in a gloriously huge cardboard box! This time, we created a pick-up truck :)Pick up truck from a cardboard box (whatilivefor.net)

All I had to do was cut the flaps off the back half of the truck to make a bed.

The flaps on the front half made the hood and side of the cab. I then used the flaps I cut off to make the roof of the cab.
