Mom & Me craft: Hand Print Polar Bears

 Most of the crafts I've done with my kids over the years have involved me supervising while they craft, but occasionally it's fun to craft with them. My daughter loved making these "Mom & Me Hand Print Polar Bears" not too long ago.

I got the idea from Simple Everyday Mom. All you need is a glue stick, googly eyes, construction paper and scissors!

Simple Easter Crafts

 Spring break is upon us, and Easter will be here before we know it! Here are two simple crafts to keep your little ones busy...at least for a little bit:

B is for Bunny craft:

1. On a piece of construction paper, draw a large letter B
2. Along the letter, put some white school glue. If your child is old enough, they can do this part.
3. Have your child place cotton balls on the glue.
4. Cut out some bunny ears and glue those on at the top of your letter B.
5. Add some googly eyes and you have a cute, alphabet Easter craft.

Handprint Bunnies

1. Trace your child's hand and cut it out.
2. Fold the middle finger behind the bunny (or cut it off)
3. Fold down the pinky finger and thumb to act as the bunny's arms.
4. Have your child draw on the face, feet, and inside of ears.
5. Voila! You have a cute little hand print bunny!

Spring is coming and this is the perfect craft to do with your little ones! A Pom Pom Caterpillar...

Sea Shell Crab Craft

We will probably never use all of our sea shells from Florida two summers ago, but it's fun finding different ways to re-purpose them...like making cute little Sea Shell Crabs!

Paint the sea shells red and let them dry.

Cut some red pipe cleaners (aka chenille stems) into 6 legs, and use two more to make the pinchers.

Hot glue those on, and add some googly eyes. Once the glue is hard, you can bend the legs so that your little crabs can stand!

Sea shell fish wall hanging

Last summer we went to Florida and came home with a box full of shells! I've been trying to figure out ways to use those shells and here's one of the projects I've created:

Recycled Turtle Craft

My boys got a pet turtle last fall, so turtles have been a popular topic here. One day, my 4 year old asked if we could make a turtle craft so I looked through my stash and we made these:

Here's what you'll need to make your own cute little turtles: applesauce cups (washed and dried), green craft foam (or construction paper), googly eyes, scissors, permanent markers, glue sticks.

Get Well Soon Card

Sometimes, when someone we love is sick or struggling, we feel helpless. It's hard to know what to say or do. Many times, they just need to know we are thinking about them. I hope that my friend's day was at least brightened a little when she got this "Get Well Soon Card" in the mail:

All it took was card stock, band-aids, googly eyes, glue, and some words of love and encouragement. A cute little handmade card to show your love.

Toddler Craft: Turkey

My husband loves to encourage our 2 year old to say "gobble gobble" whenever I call her a turkey (which tends to happen a lot). It's so darn cute, and often puts me in a better mood, because a toddler saying "gobble gobble" is just about the cutest thing in the world. So, a turkey craft is perfect for any little turkey in your life!

All you need is: construction paper, glue, scissors, and googly eyes.

Plastic Spoon Butterflies

My toddler pronounces butterfly as "blublubluh!" and it's the cutest thing ever! We decorated her room with butterflies and she loves finding them in books. My boys love to catch them and chase them while I remind them constantly to be gentle. Basically, we all love them, so these plastic spoon butterflies were the perfect craft for us.

Caterpillar Crafts

I know it's still frigid in many parts of the country, and bugs are scarce, but here's fun craft for your little ones to do while they're stuck indoors: Popsicle stick caterpillars or clothespin caterpillars.

This was a simple craft for my boys, but they loved making their own patterns. All you need is either Popsicle sticks or clothespins, pom poms, googly eyes and glue. We used hot glue, but school glue could work too. You can glue googly eyes to the front, or glue little pom poms on the head.

Popsicle Stick Reindeer Ornaments

I don't know how I spent most of my life without making one of these Popsicle Stick Reindeer Ornaments before, but somehow I missed out as a child since everyone else seems to have made them. Now, I get to live vicariously through my children's crafts!

Silly Snowman Game

If the cold weather is driving you nuts and keeping everyone indoors, celebrate the snow with a silly snowman game. Inspired by Chicken Babies “Roll a Monster Snowman” and similar to our silly pumpkin game, it’s easy, free and fun!
Cut out a bunch of snowman parts from construction paper: lots of body parts (I traced two different size jars), hats, carrot noses, stick arms, eyes, and coal. I used pom-poms for our coal and googly eyes, but we had those on hand.

“I Mustache You”…

If you’re looking for a cute Valentine’s Card idea for your loved one, I mustache you to try making this one…

I took Homemaking with Monica’s card and simplified it a little :).

Just glue a googly eye on the top and cut out a mustache from felt.

On the inside, you can say something like “to be my Valentine?” or anything else.

N is for Nest

Continuing in our alphabet saga, we made our letter N into a nest. Just cut out an N, add some brown paper cut into strips for the nest and make a cute little bird watching over her eggs. Thanks Totally Tots for the inspiration!

M is for Mouse

My 4 year old is in pre-K now, so we haven’t been working on letters as much, but he will still come home occasionally and ask to make a new letter in our alphabet. We made the letter M into a cute little mouse… I cut the M out of white paper, added ears, googly eyes, a red pompom nose, paper whiskers and a tail. The red is blood, which my 4 year old insisted on adding…I guess mice have blood too…

Star Wars Finger Puppets

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Now, we’re making the transition to Christmas and it’s time to start planning presents for all of our loved ones…

If you have a Star Wars fan on your Christmas list, I highly recommend making them Star Wars finger puppets…how cute are these?!

   

I bought the pattern from The Idea Room for $4. My husband happened to be at the store and bought me a bunch of felt. Sheets of felt are so cheap that when all is said and done, this is a very affordable gift and will provide hours of entertainment.

I did make most of the bodies longer because I made these for my dad and the bodies are a bit short to stay on grown up’s fingers.

My favorites were R2-D2 and the Ewok!

Alphabet: I

After much deliberation in our alphabet escapade, we decided to make our letter I into an iguana…

Just cut out a capital letter I from construction paper, add a tail and head and cut toes in the legs. Oh, and some googly eyes of course :).

Alphabet: G

Inspired by Help! Mama Remote’s letter G, I give you our G for giraffe:

Cut out a yellow G, curving the head of the giraffe. Have your kid(s) cut out brown spots. Glue them all over. Add some horns, or whatever those are called and some googly eyes.

My 3 year old is SO proud of learning his alphabet and this is a fun way to spend time together while my 5 year old is at school.

Popsicle Stick Farm Animals

We go to our local library every week for story time, and one of my favorite parts about our library is that they include a cute craft each week. A while ago, the theme was “On the Farm” and the craft afterwards was these adorable farm animals from popsicle sticks…
I couldn’t believe how simple these were to make! Just have your little one color the popsicle stick the appropriate colors, glue on some googly eyes, and some shapes for the other facial features:

• Triangles behind the head for ears
• Circles for snouts
• Triangles for beaks
• A rectangle for the horse's mane (just cut a little fringe after it’s glued on)

SO CUTE and so simple!
