Thomas the Train Birthday Cake

My 3 year old daughter was obsessed with Thomas the Train when her birthday came around, so I knew that her birthday cake had to be reflective of this. After scouring Pinterest, I finally came up with this (and she LOVED it!):
Thomas the Train Birthday Cake
And this is how I made it:

To make the 3, I got my inspiration from Sweet and Lovely Crafts.
  • Take two 8 or 9 inch cakes and level them.
  • Use a glass to cut a hole in the middle of each.

  • On one cake, cut almost 1/4th of the ring out. This is the bottom of the 3.
  • Use the piece you cut out to cut the proper angle on the other cake to make the top of the 3.

Now frost. I start with a crumb layer of white frosting to keep the crumbs from getting everywhere. Then frost the whole cake green.

For the tracks, I started by drawing the track lines with a toothpick, and piping two thin lines of chocolate frosting.

Then, I piped thick lines across, and stars around the bottom.

Add a Thomas Train (or one of his friends) and you have an adorable cake!

My other source for inspiration was here. I'll be linking up to Tip Tuesday at Tip Junkie.
