Happy April Fools!

Last year, my then-6-year-old came home from school jumping with excitement. He told me he had brought me a special treat….a brownie! At the time, I was pregnant, craving chocolate, and just a little excited that my little boy had saved his special treat from school just for me. I closed my eyes and held out my hands as instructed and found this:April Fools @ whatilivefor.net

I’d been had! By my own son! Who was only 6 years old! True to his word, he brought me a BROWN E from school.

Happy April Fools!

Out of the Mouth of Babes

I love being a parent. I really do. There are sometimes when it can get you into trouble though, like when your kid says the wrong thing, or does something else that is utterly humiliating!

Last week I took my boys in for their annual well checks. While we were sitting in the waiting room, as I'm filling out paper work, suddenly K exclaims "Uh-oh Mommy! Her doesn't have any hair!"

My heart fell. I just knew there was going to be someone across the waiting room who is very sensitive about their hair loss as my son is rubbing it in. I look over to see who he is talking about, and there is a man with the top of his head completely bald. K doesn't quite grasp the proper usage of her, he, she, him yet, and we are working on teaching him about the differences between boys and girls. Before I could explain anything to him, the man across the room started smiling, and with a surprised look reached up to his head and exclaimed "where did it go?!"

We all started laughing and the situation was diffused, but that was definitely one of those scary moments that only a young child with an inquisitive mind could get away with saying what he did.

I recently read a similar post over at 5 Minutes for Mom, and if you need a good laugh, head over and read the comments! It's hilarious! Or, better yet, share your funny parenting stories here :)

Failure to Multitask

Some may have noticed my post earlier with the content containing "la dee dah."

The University of Utah recently conducted a study which found that only 2.5% of people can truly multitask without impairing their ability to focus on both tasks. In this case, students were observed while driving and talking on a cell phone. Almost all of the students experienced a decrease in driving performance by 20-30%.

Apparently I am not in that 2.5%, and I am not a "supertasker".

I had written the title of what I wanted to post about, and the above mentioned content to remind myself to write about it later when my phone rang. As I answered, I went to his save, and instead hit publish. I always wondered why some blog posts from other blogs didn't make any sense and led to no where when I clicked on the link :)

Glutton

As defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a glutton is "one that has a great capacity for accepting or enduring something" such as a glutton for punishment.

Hi, I'm Judy, and I'm a glutton for punishment. Why? Here's my story:

While I was working on Bunny & Clyde, I learned the extremely hard lesson that polyester thread is evil, worthless, and a waste of time and money. After spending over an hour on these bunnies, I had to go back and redo everything with cotton thread, because the polyester thread kept shredding and skipping stitches. I made my husband swear that he would never let me use polyester thread again.

What a good husband he is! The other night he randomly looked at me and said "Judy, don't use polyester thread ever again!" He then continued into a list of everything I told him to remind me never to do. Isn't he sweet? At least he remembers, right :)

Tonight, as I pulled out my machine and sat down to sew, I saw all of the polyester thread in my collection and thought, what can it hurt? I cannot throw things that might be somewhat useful away, and my mother-in-law passed her great assortment of thread onto me. I was just mending something that didn't have to look pretty, so it wouldn't matter much. After re-doing, re-threading, re-everything, I finally decided to switch to cotton thread. Guess what? My machine started singing praises to my name and humming the most beautiful melody a sewing machine can hum.

What did I tell you? I am a glutton!

Dinner at our table

We are ravenously devouring our Santa Fe White Chili (with chicken) when our dinner conversation turned into this....

Mommy: I guess C likes the chicken.
Daddy: Of course, he's an animal.
K: Animals go in the barn daddy.
Daddy: I don't think he'd fit (referring to K's little toy barn).
K: They go in the barn daddy.
Daddy: Not all animals go in the barn. Do tigers go in the barn?
K: No.
Daddy: Do horses go in the barn?
K: Yeah.
Daddy: Do snakes go in the barn?
K: No.
Daddy: Do chickens go in the barn?
K: No.
Daddy: Where do chickens go?
K: Chickens go in the *unintelligible two-year-old mumble*
Mommy: What was that K? Where do chickens go?
K: Chickens go in the BOWL!
