Scissor skills activity-toy rescue

My 5 year old just started kindergarten, and the one concern her pre-k teacher had for her was that she doesn't have the hand strength to use scissors very well. Over the summer I had her cut paper when we could, but I knew she would love this scissor skills activity...rescuing her toys!

Lawn Salon

If you’re looking for an activity that will keep the kids busy for a while, hand them a pair of kid’s scissors and tell them to go give the lawn a haircut :)P1030872

(Don’t mind the moon sand on K’s hands…we spent a long time outside that day). When I was younger, my brother and I would go outside and give the grass a haircut. For me, it was time to keep my hands busy while I processed whatever was going on in my life. My brother and I named our lawn Harry and we would spend ages just cutting Harry’s hair.

This was a great activity for my boys because it really did keep them entertained for a long time but it also helped them improve their hand-eye coordination, scissor cutting skills and general dexterity.

The next day both of them begged to go back outside and cut the grass’s hair :).
