Pirate Ship from a Box

For some reason, my boys have been very interested in pirates so when the delivery truck dropped off a massive cardboard box, the chosen remodeling project was a pirate ship (after, of course playing in the box for at least 1/2 an hour)…

I just cut off one of the sides of the box, folded two of the flaps to make the bow (or pointy front)…P1030207

Secured the stick (rolled up piece of cardboard from the side I cut off the box) which holds the sail with a bench of sorts…P1030209

Constructed a sail by sewing two casings along the top and bottom of a rectangular piece of fabric to put sticks through (I left a small gap in the center to attach it to the pole holding the sail up)…P1030217

Cut out a lovely helm and attached it to the ship by using a paper clip in a Brad clip sort of fashion… P1030216

cut out port holes…

And set sail! I cut out a sword from the leftover cardboard and we finished the night off by watching Hook. My boys are still talking about pirates and it was a day well spent :) Arr!!!

I’ll be linking up to Kids Get Crafty, What Are Little Boys Made of?, Fun Stuff FridaysPreschool Corner Friday.
