Chair Makeover

My in-laws were kind enough to give us this folding chair, and we have used it quite a bit, but something about it just drove me nuts…
DSCN2999Maybe it’s the cracked cover on the back rest, or the peeling/taped/ripping cover on the seat? Maybe it’s the 70’s patterns, or the fact that they’re slightly mismatched? Maybe it’s just a little ugly?

I couldn’t stand it anymore and had to do something about this chair. And then, I remembered that free vinyl tablecloth I had in our linen closet that didn’t fit any of our tables! It’s not the prettiest thing ever, but it wouldn’t be hard to beat what I was dealing with already.

I unscrewed the seat and backrest and used them to trace a cover from the table cloth. I peeled the batting off the back of the tablecloth (and saved it for another project). Then I glued it on with rubber cement and pulled tight while I screwed it back in.

It is by no means perfect, but I will take this any day over what it was before:
