If you are a crafter and you want to sell your creations online, one of the things you will need to work out how to do early on is how to take great images for your website.

People are far more likely to buy your crafts when they can see them clearly, crisply, and in as much detail as possible.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some top tips for taking great product photos for your online craft store:

A neutral background

You want your products to be the stars of the show, so be sure that you have a neutral background in place that will allow your crafts to pop. A cream or white cloth is ideal but anything that will keep the background clear and put your products at front and center will work for your product photo shoots.

Every angle

If you want to sell your crafts, you need to take photos of them from every conceivable angle so that your customers can see exactly what they look like from every conceivable angle. People do not want to buy things without knowing what they are getting, so this is really important.

Tell a story

It’d always a good idea to use your photos to tell a story about your products. Every product has a story, for example, if you are looking to sell handknitted scarves, you could tell the story of how your scarves keep people warm in the cold weather or comfortable when it is chilly out by taking photos in the snow or surrounded by fall leaves.

Really make the customer feel like they know what owning the product will be like and they are more likely to buy., If you can’t take images in the snow or on the beach or wherever, then you can use Photoshop to make it seem like you have, just make sure you clean the scratch disk so you have enough memory first - here’s how you can do that. The more you get into the story, the more sales you are sure to make.

Ensure it’s well lit

Your product images need to be very well lit if you want them to be attractive. If they are poorly lit, then the customer will struggle to see what they are looking at and they will hardly be inspiring in any case. Use a ring light or similar to ensure that every detail is illuminated in your images and you will not regret doing so.

Use a tripod

Wobbly images will look unprofessional and they will detract from your stunning crafts more than you might imagine, so it is always a good idea if you can to use a camera with a tripod which will provide plenty of stability and ensure it is your crafts, not the wobbly lines of the image, that people notice the most when browsing your store.

The better the photos you take, the more sales you are likely to make, so what are you waiting for?
