Fold & Snap Bib Tutorial

Last year our friends had a baby girl so I decided to send them a few fold & snap bibs. These bibs are wonderful because you can either leave them open to protect baby’s shirt or snap up the bottom to catch crumbs as they fall from baby’s mouth. Fold and Snap bib tutorial at What I Live For
I first saw the idea on Made by Rae and fell in love with these simple-to-make, practical bibs that are so easy to personalize!

Here’s how to make your own:
  1. Gather your materials. You will need 3 sets of snaps, a front material and back material, an old bib to use as your pattern, and a sewing machine.
  2. Trace your old bib and add 1/2 inches all the way around for seam allowance. You want it to be big enough to cover baby’s front. If the bottom of the bib is not square, just change your pattern to have a flat bottom.
  3. Pin your material to the pattern and cut it out. I used a new wash cloth on the front for extra absorbency, but added a flowery pattern on the top to make it more girly. On the back I used brown corduroy so it would be a fun tactile bib for baby.
  4. On the front, I cut out the wash cloth and the flower-fabric with 1/2 inch extra. See the picture below. You can use just one fabric if you want.Fold & Snap Bib: Cut out pieces
  5. If the front has two fabrics, put them right sides together and sew together.Fold & Snap bib: Sew together
  6. Place the front of the bib and back together with right sides together and stitch around, leaving a small opening for turning. Clip the neck-line curves. Fold & Snap bib: Sew together
  7. Turn the bib right side out. Make sure to use a pen or dull stick to push the “straps” of the bib all the way through so they lay flat. Fold the opening inside, and sew close to the edge all the way around. Fold & Snap Bib: turn right side out and top stitch
  8. Sew or hammer on your snaps. You will want a male snap and a female snap on the straps of the bib, with one facing the front of the bib and one facing the back (I used snaps because babies always seem to be able to rip bibs closed with velcro off). You will want female snaps on the bottom two corners of the bib, and males about 2/3 of the way up on the bib, making sure the snaps match up when you fold the bib up to snap it. In the picture below I circled where the snaps should all go. Fold & Snap Bib: Apply snaps
Now, try it on your little one or wrap it up nice and pretty for a fun baby shower gift. Add a matching taggie ball and you’re all set!Fold & Snap Bib at What I Live For
