Store Brand vs Name Brand Formula

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of PBM Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

Let me start by saying I am a very pro-breast feeding mama. I nursed both of my boys for a full year after they were born and made a conscious decision to do so. That being said, I understand that there are circumstances which prevent many women from being able to breast feed, and some just choose not to. I also understand that the day may come that one of my babies in the future may not be able to nurse for some reason, in which case I would probably eventually use formula.

I have zero qualms with using store brand formula

Anyone who's read my blog for a while probably knows how cheap I am. There are certain products that I prefer to pay for the name brand, but in the case of formula, store brand formula is just as healthy and is required to meet the same standards that name brand formulas meet.

When Similac held a volunteer recall recently, because of a small common beetle found in some of their products, many consumers may have been pushed to drop their loyalty and go for store brand formula. No other brand (store brand included) had such a problem.

Do you want to know why name brand costs so much more? According to this article, name brand formulas spend so much in advertisement and free products that the consumers end up paying for it. By using store brand formula, you could save as much as $600 a year!

Every penny counts, right? When it's just as good, why pay more?

  1. As a former pediatrician, I'd like to back you up on this. I breast fed for 6 months until I was forced to quit due to medication I was on. I used store brand formula. If you compare the labels there is very little to no difference between the two. The only time this could be a problem would be if your child has a severe food allergy and must go on Alimentum or another specialized formula as they aren't available in store brand. Formula is expensive, even the store brand, but save money everywhere you can. And store brand formula is a safe way to do it.
