Biosphere

If a bug dares to enter our home, it isn't met with a quick end. It is hunted, trapped, and put into our own little biosphere:
K absolutely loves these jars. He will sit and watch the bugs crawl around. I have been so amazed by how much he has learned about different types of bugs because he is able to watch them so closely. On the left we have two spiders. On the right we have two caterpillars and an ant. I'm sure our little collection will change drastically over time, especially as we have more little home invaders, but I do try to feed them so they last long enough to watch and learn from.

If you can stand having all sorts of bugs sitting on your kitchen table, I highly recommend trying this with your kids. It is fascinating to watch how other creatures live.
