At Christmas time I ended up with a bunch of empty wrapping paper tubes knowing that they were craft worthy and just barely put one to use (other than the rolls they have played numerous times as swords). This is what K and I came up with:
That’s right…the Very Hungry Caterpillar! Who can resist this cute critter from Eric Carle?
You’d be amazed at how much this caterpillar can eat!
This was so easy to make and can be used in conjunction with the book, having your caterpillar find the different kinds of food. As always, toilet paper tubes or paper towel tubes would work too :).
Just cut the tube into segments. We learned that the caterpillar has 21 segments, but after coloring 8 segments, K decided that was long enough and I was not one to argue. Color or paint the segments the appropriate colors for the caterpillar and punch small holes in each segment so you can tie them together.
Now go feed that hungry caterpillar! :)
